EVIDENCE OF NEIGHBORHOOD - SPECIFIC CULTURE of ALAÇATI

Firstly, when Alaçatı was be discovered for surfing by a group tourists in 1990’s, the popularity of Alaçatı has increased all over the World, so in there , it has increasing to tourism investment over the time. Demony of Alaçatı which, is live of fishing and agriculture in the past, tourism has become the main sector in Alaçatı. Due to the increasing housing values and economic live condition, the locals have sold their homes in this study areas. Almost all local people have left the region. According to out interview, nowadays owners are willing to rent their houses in our study area. First floor of housing was turned into commercial uses.mIn the winter, shops which rented in summer, are empty. Shops are generally use as cafes souvenirs shops and entertainment venue. In study area, there is shop which sells production of specific to local. In general, products are brought from outside. In the past ,there is only Alaçatı liberation festivals has been organized (still continues). Big supermarkets have been replaced by groceries. Before the change, in 1990’s there was organization for Greek and Italian tourist with music and meating in summers (nowadays come tourist all over the World, especially Germany). It also, theater performance (no more) was become at Amphitheater and locals was interested in these teather. Today,many festivals (herb, olivie,surf etc.)organized. Due to these increasing of popularity, awareness of something which, there are in Alaçatı, is heard all over the World.For instance,medicinal herbs in Alaçatı have become known in a short time because of herb festivals. While there was an antique shops in study area, nowadays antique shops increased thanks to popularity of Alaçatı. 15 September Kıraathanesi in the study area was village coffee in the past, but today it is a coffee shops (but it’s name is from it’s past).

As a result of these, resident which in the study area , have changed ownership. Generally local resident have göne in there. Tourism has become main sector. Alaçatı lost its cultural values from local and nowadays it can’t create its own cultural values because of continuously changing Dynamics. Nowadays it has also been transformed into a holiday place which, in summer seasons explosions the population and other seasons destination with various activities.




Figure 7 shows that differences between summer and winter. Shops which, uses entertainment venue on the street can’t rent in the winter.
