Seferihisar is located in an area with remains from the ancient city of Teos that had, in Antiquity, an influential cult centre dedicated to Dionysus and a celebrated travelling Guild of Artists of Dionysus (including poets, musicians, actors and singers) established in the 3rd century BC. In addition to formal theatre buildings, these artists used to perform in public spaces of the cities they visited, such as the agoras where temporary stages were established for the purpose.
SITE ANALYSIS OF SIGACIK CITADEL
In all, the project aims to improve the quality of life in Seferihisar, which is the first Slow City town in Turkey. Since the aim of Slow City is to slow down the pace of life, especially in the use of open spaces, conditions for semi-formal street performances fulfill those for slowing down, without rush in pedestrian movement and without vehicular traffic.
